CHRISTIAN SCHLAEFFER – The Return of John Frum

This amazing short film, which would make an animation studio proud of their work, has actually been designed, directed and animated by one person, German student of design Christian Schlaeffer.

In the first part of SALVO! we meet Edward Sharpe (Alex Ebert), this kinda messianic figure, who’s up to a confrontation with his father’s ghost in the desert. Ghost?

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros is an ensemble band led by Alex Ebert, vocalist of the power pop group Ima Robot.

Desert Song is a track on their debut album, entitled Up from Below, released on July 2009 for Vagrant Records.

KENNETH SHOFELA COKER – Iwa

Iwa is a short animated film, loosely on West African tree of life myths and legends that emphasize the cyclical nature of life and the universe. In Yoruba [language] Iwa means strength of character.

This animation was completed for Kenneth Coker’s graduation show at the Memphis College of Art in April 2009. Story boarded, animated, composited, and scored over a four month period using 3DS Max, Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe After Effects, and Logic Pro.
