Patrick, two things: first, I wish more folks who’re this good with CGI were interested in making fan films like this with the intent to create something just for the heck of cool. I wasn’t sure what I was going to see; 51 seconds isn’t always enough time to establish a solid mood (and being familiar with Maya and 3DSMax workflow, even that might be a reasonably complex project regardless of length), but this was a real blast. Iron Man and other armored heroes in comic books have always been some of the easiest characters to really feel for; Tony Stark was no more superhuman than any other human being, except for his mind and his money. He battled alcoholism more than once in his career (which was touched upon in both of the live action films) and was probably altogether one of the most normal superheroes I’ve been pleased to follow. The only other one would be DC’s Green Lantern (Hal Jordan in particular), but in this comment it’s beside the point. This was one of the most impressive fan films I’ve had the pleasure to see. The second thing, and I hope you feel proud about it, is that after a couple of views of your armoured daughter’s video (dude, show this to her and her friends if you still have a copy of the vid on your computer when she gets into her teens!) I came up with my own idea for an Iron Man spoof fan film, in this case focussing on spoofing the second film from earlier this year. You have put me in a very positive and creative mood, and if I can get the vid made over the next couple of months, I will more than certainly pay you homage in the credits. Be well, and take care of your little hero!

Been caught up in the daily grind, but I’ve got some of the basic Max mockups ready to go. I’m good at drawing but that doesn’t make me especially good at texturemapping; it’s not really my forte. I have, though, secured the services of a friend of mine to play the other character (partial body or otherwise) in the spoof. I’m yanking my own chain in saying that I’m planning on being the other guy, at least when I’m we’re not armoured up. Hee. Iron Man, like I said in my first comment, was one of the easiest characters for me to emphathize with, a) because irrespective of my own lack of wealth, he reminds me a lot of the better parts of me, psychologically, that I want to keep being, and b) because he realizes how vulnerable he is without his armour and his money. He’s come to terms with facing his own death and in overcoming the trauma of his injuries and kidnapping, realizing the same thing I did when I faced the greatest gutpunch in my life- that being a good guy and a decent person is worth every moment of it.

You know, I think your little lady will still get a kick out of seeing the video you made of her when she’s older. Hopefully by then I’ll get my video done! :) Best to you and yours, Iron Squirt included!
