When Daniel Dennett said (in his Darwin’s Dangerous Idea) that evolution can be explained using only “cranes” (as opposed to the all mighty sky-hooks), he surely had a different thing in mind…

The tancho is a koi (or nishikigoi, a Japanese carp) with a red patch on its head, which is named after the Red Crowned Crane (Grus japonensis), a bird which also has a red spot on its head.

In the short movie, the bird, stuck in the struggle between its true self and its desires, will choose the third way.

Tancho is the thesis film by Oscar Sheikh at the School of Creative Media of the City University Of Hong Kong.

Il tancho è un koi (o nishikigoi, una carpa giapponese) con una macchia rossa sulla testa; si chiama come la Gru della Manciuria (Grus japonensis), anch’essa dotata di macchia rossa.

In questo corto, l’uccello, combattuto fra la sua vera essenza ed il suo desiderio, finirà per scegliere la terza via.

Tancho è la tesi di laurea di Oscar Sheikh presso la School of Creative Media della City University di Hong Kong.
