Big Buck Bunny

Take no prisoners!

Big Buck Bunny - MPEG-4 clip
NOTES: I’m hosting a Half HD clip, but not the Full HD clip. Use the torrent link to download it, if you can. The AVI file plays in VLC. If you need to play it in a Video for Windows player, manually change the four letter code to XVID, or install Ffdshow Tryouts. Torrent and direct links to other file formats are available as well.

This said, let’s talk about the second Open Movie project from the Blender Foundation, following the 2006 film Elephants Dream.

It’s the furry story of a giant rabbit with a heart bigger than himself, some nasty rodents and an extremely comical revenge.

The film has been developed by the Peach team: director Sacha Goedegebure, AKA Sago, art director Andy Goralczyk, lead artist Enrico Valenza, AKA EnV, rigger and animator Nathan Vegdahl, AKA Cessen, animator William Reynish, technical directors Brecht van Lommel and Campbell Barton, AKA Ideasman42, and finally Jan Morgenstern who did music and sound design. Oh, and don’t forget the producer, Ton Roosendaal.

A separate team is also developing a video game called Apricot apparently set in the same world as Big Buck Bunny.

Oh, the movie has obviously been made entirely using Blender software, the free open source 3D content creation suite.

Purchasing the DVD of the movie you’ll also get all the files used in the making of it. And you’ll be free to use them in your own projects, even commercial ones. That’s open source!

Very nice stuff. Too bad Konami only released those lousy Winmedia files. I’ll see if I manage to contact somebody to get better clips and details about who made them.
