We have to mind our own business.
| I had a different plan for today posting, but this is so huge that… Well, bye bye plans!
It’s a magnificent piece of old fashioned propaganda for United States of America presidential candidate Ron Paul aimed at raising funds in order to air the promo itself in Pennsylvania for the next primary. The spot was produced, directed and edited by Nathan Evans at Arc FX with the assistance by Chris Rye. Computer graphics by Nathan Evans, Tosh Suo, Andrew Lock, Eugen Sasu. Rendering services provided by Stardust. Music composed by Marc Scibilia. Sound mixed by Chris Rye. Voice: Ron Paul. |

I have no quibbles with his message, but this is one of the most flawed uses of digital medium I could possibly envision. The subtext is that of a robot, a corpse, a non-living stand in for a REAL human, delivering this. It is the uncanny valley worst case scenario. You want a heartfelt message from someone who wants to lead the most powerful country on the planet, and it is delivered by a mo-cap cg avatar?
Wrong wrong wrong….
The context pushes all the wrong buttons, and sends the opposite message from what it intends.
phony, false, manipulative, strange, eerie, fake….
People voted T-800 for governator, so why shouldn’t they go after T-1000 for president? :D
I’m glad to see I’m not the only one disturbed by this.
This would be improved 100% if someone could induce the real doctor to stand in for his avatar…
Sadly, this might hurt Ron more than help him. As bill cone mentioned above, the subtext is disastrous. This would have been SO much stronger with Ron himself standing there, or with no figure at all, so that all we hear is his voice. But opting for a phony (and very poorly animated) figurehead was the worst possible decision (and punching in a few codes for a digital rig does NOT an animator make… but I’m digressing). I’m 100% for Ron Paul, and the intention is honorable, but the execution ultimately fails, I think.
