Show Me

Somebody wrote me on Meebo tonight, asking how “to post my movies on a similar blog, in high quality as you guys did. How did you menage to do sow? Is it a matter of private server?”

Yes, kind of. Since April, the movies are hosted on a basic account at Dreamhost. The seamless embedding is provided by the vPIP script. Worth mentioning StaxRip, my encoding tool of choice.

Now, if you want to post your own movies — meaning: you own copyright on them — my advice is to try out Blip TV, which offers free hosting the way it should be: any file format supported, lots of tools to promote your work, a network of video enthusiasts, and so on.

Other free alternatives: Vimeo, Stage6. The latter requires the installation of proprietary software, so I’d stay away from it.

Hope this helps.

Qualcuno ha scritto su Meebo stanotte, chiedendo come “posso fare per postare i miei film su un blog simile a questo, in alta qualità. Come ci riuscite?

Alternative: Vimeo, Stage6. Quest’ultimo richiede l’installazione di software proprietario, perciò ne starei lontano.

Spero d’essere stato d’aiuto.

This is great! Video tools have mystified me forever. I can do audio just fine, but there’s so many variables with video that it boggles my mind. Thanks for a starting point—I’m checking out StaxRip right now.

Your videos amaze me. It’s rare that I see a video of high quality and manageable file size. No fat clips indeed!

I’m curious where do you get your sources? You don’t have to say if you don’t want to.

One thing I should have mentioned of StaxRip is that it’s only designed for DVD sources. I can get it to work on almost anything, but some tricks (and the override of the automatic settings, especially on the aspect ratio) are required.
It’s something you have to get aquainted with, but I like the results.

I used to exploit my DVD collection. Now I usually ask the authors; this way I’m sure that my post is gonna last and not issuing troubles for me and the others.
