A Story Of Healing

Well, this is a little different from my usual stuff. And I just posted about it on Ticklebooth. But if this doesn’t deserve an exception, I don’t know what does…

In 1997, three plastic surgeons, four anesthesiologists, and five nurses made the long journey from America to a remote province in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam. There, they changed forever the lives of 110 children. This is their story.

A Dewey-Obenchain filming crew followed the volunteers on their trip, and what you’re about to see is the movie they made, which won the Academy Award® in 1998.

Interplast has now released the movie under a Creative Commons license. Isn’t this great? If you would like to support their work, then you could consider donate to them.

The movie has been directed by Donna Dewey, edited by David Emrich and narrated by Barron Christian.

Over the closing credits, Dionne Warwick sings Burt Bacharach and Hal David’s What the World Needs Now Is Love. The other song you’ll listen to is Through your Hands, sung by Joan Baez, written by John Hiatt.

Grandioso, no?

Sui titoli finali, Dionne Warwick canta What the World Needs Now Is Love, di Burt Bacharach ed Hal David. L’altro pezzo che ascolterete è Through your Hands, cantata da Joan Baez, e scritta da John Hiatt.

Released under Creative Commons BY-NC-ND license.

Is there any other source for a download of the movie? Blip TV is unobtainable in China (or at least always has been in my location in Beijing). I would like the ability to show this to my students as fodder for discussion and debate, in addition to opening their eyes to more of the world.

Not at the moment. If you can reach archive.org I’ll put the clip there.

Thank you very much! Internet Archive is not only available here, but it is also the fastest download source I have encountered here so far.
