| Three witches in a (post) modern city are worshiping a bird shaped statue, when Gisèle Kérozène come and steal it. The three fellow jump on their brooms and start an hilarious (yet very graphic) chase to the thief.
The director is Jan Kounen (who also plays the guy on the wheelchair), who has later directed several feature movie like Dobermann and Blueberry. The movie uses that peculiar stop animation technique where people is filmed while jumping in the air, then the result is edited to make it look like they’re floating. I’ll file it under jump in the air, not knowing how to properly call it… UPDATE: The correct name is pixilation, as I learned from the comments. UPDATE2: The movie is available, along with other great stuff (I know I said this often, but just read the line-up) on Cinema16 European Short Films DVD. The disc featurees commentaries from the directors and subtitles in Italian and English. And no, the haven’t paid me… |

This form of animation is called “pixilation”.
The technique is called Pixellation, as far as I know. It’s stop motion with actors.
I used to hate it because we had to do it for school projects and the films they showed us were pretty bad russian pieces of you-know-what, but this excellent piece makes up for all of it!
Oh thanks for the blog! It’s enlightening. Really.
Thank you guys. That’s surely better that “jump in the air”… :D
I’ve remembered this film fondly since seeing it as a child on the show Night Flight. Thanks!
