ANTONIO MERCERO – La cabina

A man (José Luis López Vázquez) gets trapped inside a phone booth. People try to free him, with no success. What starts as a laughable accident ends up to be a surreal trip to the twilight zone.

This short written and directed by Antonio Mercero won the International Emmy Award fot the Best film in 1973.

The movie has Spanish dialogues, but a fully understanding of what is said is not necessary: that’s just the same words me and you would say in the same situation.

UPDATE: karramarro, in his post at Papel Continuo points to a commercial (circa 1998) for Retevisión (a Spanish phone company) that references this movie. Take a look.

 Un uomo (José Luis López Vázquez) resta intrappolato in una cabina del telefono. La gente prova invano a liberarlo. Ciò che è iniziato come un buffo incidente finisce in un viaggio surreale ai confini della realtà.

Il film, scritto e diretto da Antonio Mercero, ha vinto l’International Emmy Award per il miglior corto nel 1973.

Il film è parlato in spagnolo, ma la perfetta comprensione dei dialoghi non è necessaria: viene detto ciò che chiunque direbbe trovandosi in quella stessa situazione.

UPDATE: karramarro, nel suo post su Papel Continuo punta a uno spot (circa 1998) per Retevisión (compagnia telefonica spagnola) che cita La cabina. Dateci uno sguardo.

    Fantastic!
    Check out this Spot from Retevisión (a spanish phone company) from 1998 with a reference to this movie.
    In the Spot appears Jose Luis Lopez Vazquez 26 years later.

    The spot text says something like” In 1998 arrived freedom to phone world”
    “The monopoly is over…”
    etc

    Prego. In realta’, come ho scritto, mi piacerebbe sapere chi posta questa roba nel posto in cui la prelevo. Non per altro… Magari ce n’e’ dell’altro!!!
    Se ti piace il genere, su Surrealfilm, linkato in basso, c’e’ un bel po’ di roba. Molte cose gia’ le conoscevo, un paio sono anche in coda per un post, ma nel complesso… ci faro’ una visita approfondita appena ho tempo.
