Gagarin (orig. Гагарин) is the story of a caterpillar who yearns to fly before the right time has come. The result will be catastrophic for the poor guy; laughable for anyone else.

This animated short movie, directed by Alexei Kharitidi, was nominated for an Academy Award in 1996.

It is also reported to have gained an award for the best short film at Cannes in 1995 (here and here) but the official site tells another truth. If you knows more about this, you’re welcome!

NOTE: The MPEG file is the source but it doesn’t play very well in most of the players I tried it. I managed to make a fully compatible MP4 file. Praise to GPAC: without you I’d be lost!

Questo corto animato, diretto da Alexei Kharitidi, è stato nominato ai Premi Oscar nell’anno 1996.

Qualche sito riporta anche la vittoria della palma d’oro per il miglior corto a Cannes nel 1995 (qui e qui) ma il sito ufficiale dice tutt’altra cosa. Chiunque ne sapesse di più è il benvenuto!
