The author says: “I had to draw and paint about 16.000 cell-mattes, and make several hundred thousand exposures on an optical printer. It took a full seven months, sixteen hours per day, to make the piece. The miracle is that the negative got through the process with only minor damage, and I made less than one hundred mathematical mistakes…”

A lot of music videos have been inspired and/or paid hommage to this short movie: the refreshing video for Kylie Minogue’s Come in to My World directed by Michel Gondry, the variaton provided by R.E.M.’s Imitation of Life by Garth Jennings, the complete rip-off of Greenday’s Redundant by Mark Kohr and many others… (credits to Kamigurumi for the last one.)

Dice l’autore: “Ho dovuto disegnare e dipingere circa 16.000 fotogrammi, e fare diverse centinaia di migliaia di esposizioni su una stampante ottica. Ho impiegato circa sette mesi, sedici ore al giorni. Il miracolo è che il negativo sia uscito dal processo solo con danni minimi, e che io abbia commesso meno di un centianaio di errori di calcolo…”
