Segundo de Chomón is a prominent name in the history of early cinema, that owes him much of its “wonderous” and phantasmagoric appeal. Born in Catalonia, Chomón has been, above all, one of the first to to develop and exstensively use tricks and to experiment with the bizarre techniques.
Pathé wants him in Paris, in 1901 to oppose his talent to Georges Méliès. The best results Chomón got on colour, with some work that look magic and spectacular even nowadays; he made the first hand coloured films using the technique called pochoir. He’ll be credited in Italy to be the first using in studio travelling on the movie Cabiria (1914) by Giovanni Pastrone. I Kiriki sono un gruppo di acrobati giapponesi che si esibiranno per voi in alcuni dei loro migliori trucchi… Segundo de Chomón è un nome di assoluto rilievo nella storia del cinema delle origini, che a lui deve, in ampia misura, il proprio carattere più fantasmagorico e “meraviglioso”. Catalano, Chomón è stato soprattutto uno dei primi inventori dei trucchi e sperimentatore di tecniche del fantastico Pathé lo chiama a Parigi nel 1901 per opporre il suo talento a quello di Méliès. È nel campo del colore che Chomón ottiene alcuni dei risultati ancora oggi più magici e spettacolari; è lui, inoltre, a colorare a mano i primi film, usando la tecnica del pochoir. In Italia, gli verrà accreditato l’uso del primo travelling in studio, per il film Cabiria (1914) di Giovanni Pastrone.
